Summer Thornton has really made a wonderful contribution to current interior design with this volume. Anyone who's been paying attention to design the last several years is already familiar with her exuberant and gutsy use of color and pattern, so you already know you'll be seeing fantastic, fun work. For me, this book offers something that is a make or break in a design book: She has really taken the time and care to explain, in both section introductions and individual captions, her thought process behind the choices she has made. (Designers thinking of pitching your own book: Take note!) This gives the reader a real opportunity to LEARN something -- which is why I think it's valuable for fellow designers and design students, not just to ooh and ahh over the images but to be able to think, oh this actually works! I could try this! I *understand* what I'm seeing! It's a book that will expand your views about what's possible. It is of course, beautifully shot by some of the most recognizable names in interiors photography and oh IT'S HUGE, which is always wonderful to see (yay print!). As a design enthusiast who buys a LOT of design books (and who has been disappointed by some of the recent titles), I really feel this was a worthwhile purchase that I'll be opening again and again.
