Queen's Hope by E. K. Johnston (Author),

A peace-loving senator faces a time of war in another thrilling Padmé Amidala adventure from the author of the New York Times best-sellers Queen's Peril and Queen's Shadow !  Padmé is adjusting to being a wartime senator during the Clone Wars. Her secret husband, Anakin Skwyalker, is off fighting the war, and excels at being a wartime Jedi. In contrast, when Padmé gets the opportunity to see the casualties on the war-torn front lines, she is horrified. The stakes have never been higher for the galaxy, or for the newly-married couple.  Meanwhile, with Padmé on a secret mission, her handmaiden Sabé steps into the role of Senator Amidala, something no handmaiden has done for an extended period of time. While in the Senate, Sabé is equally horrified by the machinations that happen there. She comes face to face with a gut-wrenching decision as she realizes that she cannot fight a war this way, not even for Padmé. And Chancellor Palpatine hovers over it all, manipulating the players to his own ends…. Read more

I was so excited about this book. I literally waited until midnight to start reading it! I love Padme and Anakin, Sabe is worth getting to know and honestly the handmaidens make me feel like I need a squad- we all need a squad like Padme. However, this book quickly turned into a disappointment for me personally. I am not even done reading it and I am writing this review knowing I won't and no longer have and interest in it. 1. WOKE OVERLOAD. Sooo...spice is now the equivalent of Marijuana and is okay to use for pain management...somehow. and ALOT of LGBTQ+++ representation and in a galaxy filled with all kinds of different species, races, and backgrounds, ***we feel like we have to explain or acknowledge our differences***. My main gripe is not about the LGBTQ representation but the need to explain and make a point about it. (Meanwhile, I'm still sitting here waiting for more black people to show up). I am not sure why author's and story tellers for Star Wars feel the need to put our real world controversy in a Star Wars Galaxy. We don't pick up a star wars book about our favorite characters to get more of the same things we get from the news or social media. WE WANT TO ESCAPE! Not read about an agenda. 2. Skimmed, Explained, and Rushed Through... The main reason why this is getting a 1 star is because I do not think this book is well written. For example...and there are Spoilers from here.... Anakin and Padmé's wedding is big deal in the star wars story and what it means. It is the foundation of star wars itself as through their union, Luke and Leia were born and the galaxy was pushed into chaos. It's suppose to be a beautiful moment but to me, it's just kinda skimmed over. Even the exchange of the droids: C3P0 and R2, was just talked about and explained in 3 sentences. Things are just not well talked about, and it feels rushed. Even their mission before their wedding was kinda weak and ....unnecessary. I'm sorry. I don't mean to be harsh, but just giving my opinion. EDIT UPDATE: While I was talking to a friend about it and trying to figure out what is "wrong" I also realized that instead of the book encompassing you into what is going on, It feels like its simply being told to you. Usually with good stories, you feel like you're there witnessing and experiencing the same things the characters are experiencing but this book doesn't do that. I feel like E.K is simply telling us about what happen- she skims through and rushes through parts that a prequel fan/Anakin and Padme fan, would enjoy and be excited for. Another thing is that during one of her interviews for this book, E.K. talked about how writing about Anakin was a downer for her- I suppose because He is Darth Vader-idk...and I thought that was kind of strange to say about the main character of the whole star wars stories and the basis to everything we know about star wars- but now that I am going through all of this in my head, I can now understand how some of the parts- the small parts we got with Padme and Anakin were not that ...great. Just my observation but that one comment kind shows in her writing. It's just not interesting. I am a huge Padme and Anakin fan and I was just not...impressed by the first half of this book. I really wanted to enjoy it as I bought the ebook AND used a credit for the audiable book as well to listen on the go. But I am now trying to figure out how I can get my credit back and if I should cancel my order for "Brotherhood" coming out next month. I really wanted to like this.
